چکیده

We demonstrate through simulations the feasibility of using magnetically coupled nanometer-scale ferromagnetic dots for digital information processing. Microelectronic circuits provide the input and output of the magnetic nanostructure, but the signal is processed via magnetic dot–dot interactions. Logic functions can be defined by the proper placements of dots. We introduce a SPICE macromodel of interacting nanomagnets and use this tool to design and simulate the proposed nanomagnet logic units. This SPICE model allows us to simulate such magnetic information processing devices within the same framework as conventional electronic circuits.

Investigation of Antiferromagnetic Ordering along Chains of Coupled Nanomagnets

This paper investigates dipolar ordering phenomena in chains of deep-submicron size, strongly coupled nanomagnets by Magnetic Force Microscopy. We will examine effects influencing the length o f antiferromagnetic ordering in these chains. Experimental observations will be compared to single-domain simulations and we will discuss methods to achieve the possible longest-range ordering. Keywords-n...

Nanocomputing: From nanowires to nanomagnets

The building block of modern digital computers is the celebrated transistor which is a charge-based switch and whose two stable conductance states encode the binary bits 0 and 1. The two states are demarcated by the amount of charge stored in the transistor’s channel. If more charge is present, the transistor is on and if less charge is present, it is off. When a transistor switches, charges ha...

Magnetic QCA systems

The field-coupled QCA architecture has emerged as a candidate for providing local interconnectivity for nanodevices, and offers the possibility to perform very dense, high speed, and low power computing in an altogether new paradigm. Magnetic interactions between nanomagnets are sufficiently strong to allow room-temperature operation. We are investigating the fabrication and testing of arrays o...

Simulation of Field Coupled Computing Architectures Based on Magnetic Dot Arrays

In this paper, we demonstrate that field-coupled nanomagnets can be used for digital information processing. The operation of logic devices is based on a QCA-like architecture, where information propagates by magnetostatic interaction between individual magnetic dots. Micromagnetic simulations indicate that simple logic gates function properly. Efficient design tools, based on the single-domain...
